Over the last number of years we have constantly been told about Ireland having to fulfill international obligations on immigration. During this time, citizens have raised numerous concerns relating to the impact on housing, our creaking health infrastructure as well as security concerns with respect to unvetted migration only to be shot down and labelled as far-right and racist agitators. This response from government and echoed through large sections of the media has been truly incredible to witness. To dare to ask the question: “what about solving national obligations first?” is assumed to have a racist motive. Irish people have historically been recognised for our generosity and charitable nature around the world and to have our moral integrity questioned by the establishment is quite sickening.
Despite being vilified by our own media and left-leaning politicians in power, it turns out that the people who expressed concerns on migration had a valid point all along.
Now, we see across Europe that the major powers are changing their position rapidly on immigration – for the same reasons raised by concerned citizens in Ireland. EU political heavyweights such as Michel Barnier of France and Chancellor Olaf Scholz Germany as well as the Netherlands, Giorgia Meloni in Italy and Donald Tusk of Poland are all changing their tune on the open door policy. They realise that the will of their people is not being served.
Will those in Dáil Éireann adopt a similar approach or will they continue to spout on about serving “international obligations“? This should be an interesting discussion on the doorsteps.
